In the Luo culture, if you are born at night, you carry the name Otieno. Lawrence Otieno Nyanya was born on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1980, in a village called Ramba.
The pupils and students at Nyakasumbi primary school have benefitted significantly from foreign and local donations. Its current infrastructure was almost entirely built through charitable assistance.
For the past three years Delbert’s education has been funded by a scholarship from the Kenya Education Endowment Fund (KEEF), a Canadian NGO that provides scholarships for very bright students from Kakamega County. KEEF sponsors students who do not have the means to pay the fees for secondary and post-secondary school.
